Installing Apache, MySQL and PHP in Ubuntu using tasksel tool

I use tasksel tool to install the LAMP server in ubuntu and i personally feel it is the easiest method to do so. Here are the screenshots and short description on how to do it.

First of all, if you don't have tasksel tool installed, open terminal and simply type the command:
sudo apt-get install taskel

Type the super user password and enter
Type 'y' and press enter when it asks "Do you want to continue?"

Now, once the tasksel tool has been installed we can type the command:
sudo tasksel

Go ahead and select the "Lamp server" as in the picture below and press enter

Set MySQL root password

After the process is complete, you can go to the web browser and type "localhost" and press enter, you should see the similar message as shown in the picture below, which means Apache, MySQL and PHP  has been installed

The get to the root folder go to : File System --> Var --> www  as shown in the picture below

To access MySQL database, open terminal and type:
mysql -u root -p

Enter the password form MySQL which was set during the LAMP installation

To list the databases, you can use the command:
show databases;

Though all the database operation can be done using command line, i prefer to use phpmyadmin tool, which is a lot easier to use. The info on the tool can be found  here. Will write about installing phpmyadmin tool in the next blog.
